A "Standard Operat<strong>in</strong>g Procedures Manual" (SOPM) has been developed and is par<br />
t of <strong>the</strong>se guidel<strong>in</strong>es. This SOPM will be used as <strong>the</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g material. A copy of this<br />
SOPM will be made available to <strong>the</strong> Medical Officer for use <strong>in</strong> his Blood Storage Center<br />
for undertak<strong>in</strong>g storage, group<strong>in</strong>g, cross match<strong>in</strong>g and transfusion.<br />
In addition to <strong>the</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong> above Medical Staff, it is considered necessary that <strong>the</strong><br />
cl<strong>in</strong>icians who will be responsible for prescrib<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> use of blood are also sensitized on<br />
<strong>the</strong> various parameters of blood transfusion. For this <strong>the</strong> "Cl<strong>in</strong>ician's Guide to<br />
Appropriate Use of Blood" has been developed. It is suggested that one-day sensitization<br />
programme for <strong>the</strong> cl<strong>in</strong>icians may be organized at <strong>the</strong> District <strong>Hospital</strong>/Medical College.<br />
Government of India will make <strong>the</strong> expenditure for <strong>the</strong> above-mentioned tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>gs,<br />
available as per <strong>the</strong> norms of tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g under <strong>the</strong> RCH Programme. This tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g will,<br />
however, be coord<strong>in</strong>ated by <strong>the</strong> Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Division of Department of Family Welfare. The<br />
states are required to <strong>in</strong>clude tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g as part of <strong>the</strong> overall State Action Plan for<br />
establish<strong>in</strong>g Blood Storage Centers.<br />
