5.5 Location of Conta<strong>in</strong>ers:<br />
All conta<strong>in</strong>ers hav<strong>in</strong>g different coloured plastic bags should be located at<br />
<strong>the</strong> po<strong>in</strong>t of generation waste, i.e., near OT tables, <strong>in</strong>jection rooms,<br />
diagnostic service areas, dress<strong>in</strong>g trolleys, <strong>in</strong>jection trolleys, etc.<br />
5.6 Labell<strong>in</strong>g: All <strong>the</strong> bags/conta<strong>in</strong>ers must be labelled bio-hazard or<br />
cytotoxic with symbols accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> rules (Schedule III of Bio-<br />
Medical Waste Rules, 1998)<br />
5.7 Bags: It should be ensured that waste bags are filled up to three-fourth<br />
capacity, tied securely and removed from <strong>the</strong> site of <strong>the</strong> generation to <strong>the</strong><br />
storage area regularly and timely.<br />
5.8 The categories of waste (Cat. 4, 7, 8, & 10) which require pre-treatment<br />
(decontam<strong>in</strong>ation/dis<strong>in</strong>fection) at <strong>the</strong> site of generation such as plastic and<br />
sharp materials, etc.. should be removed from <strong>the</strong> site of generation only<br />
after pre-treatment.<br />
5.9 The quantity of collection should be documented <strong>in</strong> a register. The colour<br />
plastic bags should be replaced and <strong>the</strong> garbage b<strong>in</strong> should be cleaned<br />
with dis<strong>in</strong>fectant regularly.<br />
6. STORAGE OF WASTE<br />
Storage refers to <strong>the</strong> hold<strong>in</strong>g of Bio-medical waste for a certa<strong>in</strong> period of<br />
time at <strong>the</strong> site of generation till its transit for treatment and f<strong>in</strong>al disposal.<br />
6.1 No untreated bio-medical waste shall be kept stored beyond a period of<br />
48 hours.<br />
