10 TRAINING<br />

10.1 All <strong>the</strong> medical professional must be made aware of Bio-medical waste<br />

(Management & Handl<strong>in</strong>g) Rules, 1998.<br />

10.2 Each and every hospital must have well planned awareness and tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

programme for all categories of personnel <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g adm<strong>in</strong>istrators to make <strong>the</strong>m<br />

aware about safe hospital waste management practices.<br />

10.3 Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g should be conducted category wise and more emphasis should be given<br />

<strong>in</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g modules as per category of personnel.<br />

10.4 Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g should be conducted <strong>in</strong> appropriate language/medium and <strong>in</strong> an<br />

acceptable manner.<br />

10.5 Wherever possible audio-visual material and experienced tra<strong>in</strong>ers should be used.<br />

Hand on tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g about colour coded bags, categorization and chemical<br />

dis<strong>in</strong>fections can be given to concerned employees.<br />

10.6 Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g should be <strong>in</strong>teractive and should <strong>in</strong>clude, demonstration sessions,<br />

Behavioural science approach should be adopted with emphasis on establish<strong>in</strong>g<br />

proper practices. Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g is a cont<strong>in</strong>uous process and will need constant<br />

re<strong>in</strong>forcement.<br />

11. MANAGEMENT & ADMINISTRATION<br />

11.1 The Head of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> shall form a waste Management Committee under his<br />

Chairmanship. The Waste Management Committee shall meet regularly to review<br />

<strong>the</strong> performance of <strong>the</strong> waste disposal. This Committee should be responsible for<br />

mak<strong>in</strong>g hospital specific action plan for hospital waste management and for its<br />

supervision, monitor<strong>in</strong>g implementation and look<strong>in</strong>g after <strong>the</strong> safety of <strong>the</strong> biomedical<br />

waste handlers.<br />

11.2 The Heads of each hospital will have to take authorization for generation of waste<br />

from appropriate authorities well <strong>in</strong> time as notified by <strong>the</strong> concerned State/U.T.<br />

Government and get it renewed as per time schedule laid <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> rules. The<br />

application is to be made as per format given <strong>in</strong> form I for grant of authorization.<br />

11.3 The annual reports accident report<strong>in</strong>g, as required under BMW rules should be<br />

submitted to <strong>the</strong> concerned authorities as per BMW rules format ( Form II and<br />

Form III respectively) (Please see pages 19 & 20 of BMW Rules).<br />
