6.2 The authorised person must take <strong>the</strong> permission of <strong>the</strong> prescribed<br />

authority, if for any reason it becomes necessary to store <strong>the</strong> waste<br />

beyond 48 hours.<br />

6.3 The authorised person should take measures to ensure that <strong>the</strong> waste does<br />

not adversely affect human health and <strong>the</strong> environment <strong>in</strong> case it is kept<br />

beyond <strong>the</strong> prescribed limit.<br />

7. TRANSPORTATION<br />

7.1 TRANSPORTATION OF WASTE WITHIN THE HOSPITALS:<br />

7.1.1 With<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> hospital, waste routed must be designated to avoid <strong>the</strong> passage<br />

of waste through patient care areas as far as possible.<br />

7.1.2 Separate time schedules are prepared for transportation of Bio-medical<br />

waste and general waste. It will reduce chances of <strong>the</strong>ir mix up.<br />

7.1.3 Dedicated wheeled conta<strong>in</strong>ers, trolleys or carts with proper label (as per<br />

Schedule IV of Rule 6) should be used to transport <strong>the</strong> waste from <strong>the</strong> site<br />

of storage to <strong>the</strong> site of treatment.<br />

7.1.4 Trolleys or carts should be thoroughly cleansed and dis<strong>in</strong>fected <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

event of any spillage.<br />

7.1.5 The wheeled conta<strong>in</strong>ers should be designed <strong>in</strong> such a manner that <strong>the</strong><br />

waste can be easily loaded, rema<strong>in</strong>s secured dur<strong>in</strong>g transportation, does<br />

not have any sharp edges and easy to cleanse and dis<strong>in</strong>fect.<br />

7.2 TRANSPORTATION OF WASTE FOR DISPOSAL OUTSIDE THE<br />

HOSPTITAL.<br />

7.2.1 Notwithstand<strong>in</strong>g anyth<strong>in</strong>g conta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 or<br />

rules <strong>the</strong>re under. Bio-medical waste shall be transported only <strong>in</strong> such<br />

vehicles as may be authorised for <strong>the</strong> purpose by <strong>the</strong> Competent<br />

Authority.<br />
