Chapter 3Authentication MethodsPassword Log OnNOTEIf you are upgrading from ProtectFile versions prior <strong>to</strong> v2.01.0, the followingpassword-related considerations need <strong>to</strong> be made:ooProtectFile prior <strong>to</strong> v2.01.0 - Passwords are not case-sensitive. If specialcharacters such as Space, ―#,‖ etc. were used, they are au<strong>to</strong>matically removed.ProtectFile v 3.x - Passwords are case-sensitive. When using passwords createdduring the use of ProtectFile prior <strong>to</strong> v2.01.0, the users should type theirpasswords in ALL CAPS. Furthermore, the users need <strong>to</strong> be instructed not <strong>to</strong>enter any of the special characters.1. Enter your user password.2. If the Save User Password check box is selected, your user password will beshown au<strong>to</strong>matically in a non-readable form the next time you log on.3. The Hide check box can be cleared if you want <strong>to</strong> use the ProtectFile menufeatures immediately. Alternatively, the main menu can be invoked later byclicking the icon in the Windows System Tray.A correct login will minimize the dialog and place a key folder icon in the taskbar,which can be used <strong>to</strong> gain access <strong>to</strong> the ProtectFile main menu screen.An unsuccessful login attempt will clear the password entry field and prompt for anew password. The login will allow for three unsuccessful attempts, after which thedialog will close and leave ProtectFile inactive.NOTERecovery will start au<strong>to</strong>matically, if the Management Console was used <strong>to</strong> generatethe user‘s configuration.
