ROUND BELTS AND PRECISION GROOVED PULLEYSRound belts are manufactured from a polyurethane seal compound that findsuse in drive belt applications where petroleum and chemical products may beencountered and temperatures will not exceed 180 o F. The flex life and abrasionresistance of this belt are excellent. The formulas listed on this and theadjacent page are to be used in the selection of belt length and pulley size forthe Round Belt drive system.Open Belt DriveD s∅D LOpen Belt Drives are used in most applications. In a crossed beltdrive, the direction of rotation of the driven pulley is reversed. Ifthe axes of the pulleys are parallel to each other, the two beltswill rub at the crossing point; this may cause premature wearingof the belt. Tilting one axis will eliminate rubbing of the belt, butmay complicate the design of the drive.Crosscut BeltDrive (O-Ring)D s∅D LCCThe following formulas are to calculate the belt length for either anOpen Belt or Cross Cut Belt drive. The outside diameterof the pulley is equivalent to the pitch diameter of the pulley;therefore the diameters listed could be used to determine theproper ratio.
