<strong>Employment</strong> <strong>Policies</strong> <strong>Manual</strong> 31each pay period. Timesheets must be completed for eachtwo (2) week pay period. Exempt employees will comply withthe same time keeping procedure as non-exempt employeesduring workweeks in which a furlough day is scheduled.B. Meal Periods and Breaks1. Meal periods and breaks are neither required nor governedby law and are therefore at the discretion of the <strong>County</strong>.2. Each non-exempt employee must take a minimum of onehalfhour for a meal break during each shift that exceeds six(6) hours. Supervisors are responsible for determining mealschedules subject to operational demands.3. Each non-exempt employee may also take one (1) fifteen (15)minute break for each four (4) hour block of work scheduledper work day. Availability of breaks is subject to operationaldemands. Supervisors are responsible for fairly administeringbreaks. Example: An employee scheduled to work an eight (8)hour day may take a fifteen (15) minute break mid-morningand another fifteen (15) minute break mid-afternoon.4. Lunch periods and breaks may not be accumulated for use asleave time on any given day, week or pay period.5. The <strong>County</strong> supports the practice of lactation by accommodatingthe needs of nursing mothers, ensuring thatemployees are provided with an adequate facility, and allowinga flexible schedule for expressing breast milk for one yearafter the child’s birth. The time allowed may exceed a normallunch or break period. Any time in excess of a normal lunchor break period will not be paid as regular work time but withsupervisory approval, non-exempt employees can use sickleave, annual leave, or establish a flexible work schedule.
