True To Its Name
Many say that there is wisdom in a name.
Victoriano Ocon is a firm believer in this saying. That is the reason why he named his firm, SUKI, to mean,
a regular customer. And to add to that, SUKI is located in Agos St. Agos means continuous flow of water.
Prophetic as it may appear, SUKI Trading Corporation
owned by Vic Ocon has lived up to its name.
Since its establishment in 2001, its roster of “sukis”
continues to “flow.”
Retired at a young age of 33, this Agricultural
Engineer turned salesman after graduation, has
been reaping the harvest of his hard work. Vic
emphasized that, “One does not need to go abroad.
One must have the passion, a combination of hilig
and a course, to succeed.”
Vic Fabrication and Repair Shop is the fabrication
plant of SUKI Trading Corporation. The former is
a metalworking fabrication company which is an
accredited fabricator in Region 7 by the Metals
Industry Research and Development Center
(MIRDC). The Upgrading of the Agro-Industrial
Equipment Fabrication and Repair Shop is the
focus of the assistance provided by DOST’s SET-UP.
SUKI Trading Corp. is the marketing arm of Vic
Fabrication and Repair Shop which has an extensive
distribution network throughout the Visayas
and Mindanao. Its main product is the pressure tank.
It is also known for manufacturing agricultural
machineries such as rice thresher, corn sheller,
mango dryer, and flatbed dryer for rice and cassava.
Cebu’s reputation as an industrial center proved
advantageous for the company.

Research and development is a core activity,
without which the design of machineries would
not be successful. SUKI has developed strong
linkages with DOST in this area. Vic’s attendance
in a seminar in Mango Processing sponsored by
a partner agency of DOST led him to eventually
become one of the beneficiaries of SET-UP.
Through the innovation system support fund from
SET-UP, SUKI was able to upgrade its operations
and production volume and increased its revenues
by more than 50%, improved its services and provide
additional employment. From three workers,
now it has 30.
The lathe and shearing machines have facilitated
the production of various prototypes with the precise
quality for fabrication in the desired number. The
company was able to supply the Department of
Agriculture, a suki, with 75% of its requirements for
post harvest equipment starting in 2005. SUKI has
also captured the local market for this type of
machineries – Quezon Province, Bicol, Agusan,
Iloilo, Leyte, and Samar. Production time can now
be better predicted and the company benefits from
a higher margin. Downtime in production has been
reduced from 40% to about 10%. Reworks and
repairs have become almost negligible.
The gains of SUKI have not remained unnoticed.
In March 2006, SUKI was a National Shoppers
Choice Awardee for the Most Outstanding Pressure
Tank, Starjet Brand. It was conferred the 2006
Philippine Marketing Excellence Awards also for the
Most Outstanding Pressure Tank. In 2010, it was a
PhilMech Awardee, an award given to outstanding
fabricators.
With these gains, Vic plans to compete in the
international market, acquire high-precision equipment
from Taiwan and India, and open the company
to foreign investors. In the meantime, he is busy
meeting the demands of his “sukis” as well as
manufacturing equipment for solid waste management-
shredder for biodegradables and non-bio
and bioreactor for biodegradables.
This young and witty businessman who is “not afraid
of the end of the world, but of the end of the month”,
is set to conquer Asia. Perhaps, in his dream, he has
focused in making this part of the world his “suki.”
And he has started to make that dream come true.
