Verdugo Hills High School WASC/CDE Self-Study ReportChapter IIStudent/Community Profile — Overall Summaryfrom Analysis of Profile DataVerdugo Hills HS has improved in many areas academically and otherwisesince the last WASC visit. However, there are still several areas ofimprovement that the school staff is working on using student performancedata and other data.Data from the following areas was presented in Chapter I: CollegeReadiness, Advanced Placement (AP), Graduation Rate, Attendance, StudentSuspensions, Student Safety, English Learner Accountabilities, Students withDisabilities, Academic Performance Index (API), Adequate Yearly Progress(AYP) and Program Improvement (PI), Parent and Community Involvement,California Standards Tests (CSTs), California High School Exit Exam(CAHSEE).SummaryVerdugo has improved in many academic and non-academic areas since thelast WASC visit. Though not meeting federal accountability targets in someareas, VHHS continues to lead the District in test scores, especially math.Suspension data, graduation rates, and attendance also are above theDistrict averages. A-G pass rates are not as high as they can be for somedemographic groups. While students continue to excel in math at Verdugo, success in the other content areas are not as dramatic. CST Test scores forEnglish Learners and students with disabilities dropped from 2011 to 2012.ImplicationsIt is critical that the school sees an increase in C or better pass rates in A-Gcourses, since this is a graduation requirement for the class of 2017. ThoughCommon Core State Standards and Assessments are not discussed in thisdocument, the implementation of the new standards and assessments is amajor change occurring over the next few years, most likely before the nextaccreditation visit. This will be reflected in the school’s future plans.
