A EUFEPS Senate is being established.
15. EUFEPS Senate
Strategic discussions and decisions in the EUFEPS Executive Committee and Council lead
to a recommendation that an academy or group of renowned scientists be established in
Europe. If so, it would be a “EUFEPS Senate” or evolutionary think-tank for further scientific
developments, covering the pharmaceutical sciences as “the science of the drug”, preferably.
This would, to some extent, be broader than the traditional understanding of the field.
Maybe, there would be networking and educational roles as well. Having concluded that
such a body, a well-organised advisory group of senior leaders or elders in the science,
would be beneficial as sounding board and pool of experience to EUFEPS and its membership,
further steps were taken.
The first and inaugural meeting of the EUFEPS Senate was held in June 2009 in Nice,
France (at the 2 nd PharmSciFair), the second meeting in April 2010 in Vienna, Austria, and
the third one in November 2010 in New Orleans, USA (at the 4 th Pharmaceutical Sciences
World Conference). The fourth meeting was held in June 2011 in Prague, Czech Republic
(at the 3 rd PharmSciFair).
The EUFEPS Senate comprises 16 members, currently, many of them having played leading
roles not only as scientists, including in education and training, but also in EUFEPS.
Professors Douwe D. Breimer (Leiden, The Netherlands), and Christian R. Noe (Vienna,
Austria) are Chair and Secretary of it.
