17. Sponsorship Recognition
The core funding of EUFEPS is based on annual membership fees. The major part is provided
by the EUFEPS Member Societies, the fee of which is related to the size of the Member
Society. Currently, there are 24 Member Societies of EUFEPS, in 24 countries, including
Israel and Turkey. In addition there are around 500 Individual Members of EUFEPS as well
as 15 Member Institutions, comprising universities and research institutes.
“Meetings and events”, meaning congresses, conferences, workshops and courses etc. is
an additional source of income of EUFEPS, in many cases covering not only direct expenses
and the administration and management of them, but also some of the development
costs for future activities, including important and crucial meetings not bearing their
own financial burden. In addition, EUFEPS initiated and participated (and still does) in EU
funded projects, also covering their own costs and time spent, after approved application
and reimbursements.
Since 2007, a number of major European pharmaceutical companies provided significant
sustained sponsorship for EUFEPS, in three-year cycles or year by year. This is gratefully
acknowledged. It helped to, for example, keep and continuously run the permanent
secretariat of EUFEPS, located in Stockholm, Sweden. Sustained sponsors were/are:
AstraZeneca, Bayer Healthcare, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis and Pfizer. In addition, many
companies sponsored EUFEPS events, over the years, including those organised by
EUFEPS Networks.
For the future, even broader support of EUFEPS will be sought to build longer term financial
stability – more members (societies, individuals and institutes), as well as small, medium
and big companies, all for new significant initiatives and to better serve the pharmaceutical
scientist community, e.g. towards a framework for continuing professional development
(CPD).
