TroubleshootingWaukesha Cherry-BurrellPROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE SUGGESTED ACTIONInsufficient flow.Fluid vaporization (“starved''pump inlet).Insufficient flow. Flow beingbypassed somewhere.Insufficient flow. High slip.Speed too low to obtain desiredflow.Air leak due to bad seals, gadgets or pipe connections.Strainers, foot valves, inletfittings or lines clogged.Inlet line size too small, inletline too long. Too many fittingsor valves. Foot valve, strainerstoo small.NIPA - Net Inlet PressureAvailable at Pump is too low.Fluid viscosity greater thanexpected.Fluid temperature higher thanexpected (vapor pressurehigher).Flow diverted in branch line, open valve, etc.Relief valve not adjusted orjammed.Hot (HC) or extra clearancerotors on '"cold'' fluid, and/orlow viscosity fluid.Worn pump.High pressure.Check flow-speed curve (available fromWCB customer service) and adjust asnecessary.Replace seals, check inlet fittings.Clear lines. If problem continues, inletsystem may require changing.Increase inlet line size. Reduce length, minimize direction and size changes, reduce number of fittings.Raise liquid level in source tank toincrease Net Inlet Pressure (NIPA).Increase Net Inlet Pressure Available atPump by raising or pressurizingsource tank.Select larger pump size with (''starved''pump inlet) lower Net Inlet PressureRequired.Reduce pump speed and accept lowerflow, or change system to reduce linelosses.Increase temperature of product to reduceviscosity.Reduce temperature, reduce speed andaccept lower flow or change system toincrease Net Inlet Pressure Available.Check system and controlsClear or adjust valve.Replace with standard clearance rotors.Increase pump speed (within limits).Replace rotors, have pumpremanufactured.Reduce pressure by adjusting systemsettings or hardware.Page 100 95-03015 Revised: February 2007
