Preface For the Interim ManualWe apologize for the work-in-progress nature of this manual. We hope to have a completelyup-to-date version someday in either this or the next century. Until then, wehope this version will be of some use.Presently, the Reference Manual and Administrator ’s Guide included in this interimmanual are more or less current with respect to release 4 of spec. Also, portions ofthe Four-Circle Reference have been recently rewritten. In addition, a new HardwareReference has been started. However, the User Manual and Tutorials could use amajor rewrite, and the Standard Macros Guide does not reflect many revisions to thestandard macros.At any rate, this version of the manual should certainly give you the flavor of spec.For details on exactly how macros are constructed, you should probably consult thesource code for the macros in your current distribution.
