ValiditySTAR Early Literacy Enterprise Research Study ProceduresOther Correlational Evidence of STAR Early Literacy Enterprise ValidityOther currently available evidence of the validity of STAR Early Literacy Enterprisescores consists of their correlations with student age, grade, and literacy skills asrated by teachers. Evidence for each of these will be presented in this section.Because STAR Early Literacy, including the Enterprise version, reports its scores ona single, vertical scale that is applicable regardless of student age and grade, wewould expect scores to increase with students’ ages and grade levels, andtherefore would also expect at least a moderate degree of correlation of Enterprisescale scores with both age and grade. Evidence that such is the case is presentedbelow in Tables 39 and 40.Table 39 presents data on the relationship of Enterprise scaled scores to studentage, for students less than 10 years old. Table 40 presents similar data related tostudent grade levels, for the STAR Early Literacy design grade range of K–3. Asexpected, average scores increase with each year of age, and with each grade.Table 41 lists the correlations between scaled scores and age (0.44) and grade(0.51.) Both correlations show a moderate degree of association and arestatistically significant (p < 0.0001).Table 39:Summary Statistics on Enterprise Scaled Scores by Age GroupAge Group N Mean Standard Deviation5 103 635 1116 1,190 692 1037 1,457 744 1028 902 799 919 422 826 73Table 40:Summary Statistics on Enterprise Scaled Scores by Student GradeGrade N Mean Standard DeviationK 2,250 686 1011 2,782 748 982 1,398 818 693 946 836 63STAR Early LiteracyTechnical Manual91
