He has recently been appointed –following an election – as the Indigenous Expert Member from the Asiaregion to the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues for its 2011-2013term.Myrna SafitriMyrna Safitri is an executive director of EpistemaInstitute, Jakarta. She obtained her PhD in Law,Governance and Development from LeidenUniversity, with a specific research topic on foresttenure and community forestry. She has been activelyinvolved in law reform movements, particularly onforestry, with several Indonesian CSOs. She is thefounder of HuMa – an association for community andecological based law reform. Myrna was a legaldrafter of the Indonesian bill of natural resourcemanagement at the Ministry of Environment and shewas involved in the making of the Indonesian National Strategy on Accessto Justice at the National Development Planning Agency. Recently, shebecame a member of the UNDP expert panel on participatory governanceassessment on REDD+. In addition to this she also teaches at the Universityof Indonesia and President University.160
