ShimrayPrasert TrakansuphakonGam A. Shimray is a Naga from the Northeasternpart of India and is currently working as Assistant<strong>to</strong> the Secretary General of the Asian Indigenous<strong>Peoples</strong> Pact (AIPP). He is a member of the Naga<strong>Peoples</strong> Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR)and has been an indigenous activist for the lastfifteen years. Gam was the Convenor of NPMHR(Delhi Sec<strong>to</strong>r) and also served as NationalCoordina<strong>to</strong>r of the All India Coordinating Forum ofthe Adivasi/Indigenous <strong>Peoples</strong> for five years. Hiseducational background is in his<strong>to</strong>ry, politicalscience and development studies.Prasert Trakansuphakon received his PhD in SocialSciences from Chiang Mai University, Thailand, in2008. He also holds a M.Ed. in Non-FormalEducation from Chiang Mai University and a BAin Political Science from Ram Kham Haeng,University, Bangkok. Prasert was President of theExecutive Committee of the Asian Indigenous<strong>Peoples</strong> Pact (AIPP) from 2000 <strong>to</strong> 2005. He wasalso Executive Committee Member of theInternational Alliance of Indigenous/Tribal <strong>Peoples</strong>of Tropical <strong>Forest</strong>s (AITTF) from 1994 <strong>to</strong> 2002.Prasert’s regional expertise is on Thailand, Burma, Laos, Vietnam,Cambodia and Southwest China. He is currently Regional Direc<strong>to</strong>r ofIndigenous Knowledge and <strong>Peoples</strong> in Mainland South East Asia (IKAP-MMSEA).161
