Land tenure security – Certificates of Ancestral Domain/Land TitleOne of the major areas of work of NCIP has been the provision of landtenure security for indigenous peoples in the form of Certificates ofAncestral Domain/Land Title – CADT/CALT. NCIP assume a quasi-judicialfunction in the allocation of these Certificates, which involves titling anddelineation of Ancestral Domains, the issuance of CADTs/CALTs andregistration of the latter with the Land Registration Authority, as well as theadjudication of cases related <strong>to</strong> the above.The delineation and titling of Ancestral Domains involves obtaining awritten testimony from the elders/leaders of the indigenous community inquestion, as well as proof of “since time-immemorial possession” of theland. Self-delineation through ground surveys and the mapping of AncestralDomain boundaries ensues, based upon which the survey plan and itstechnical description are submitted for validation and publication in order <strong>to</strong>obtain approval and registration of the land title.Applications must be accompanied by additional required material <strong>to</strong> justifythe land claim, including:1. Genealogical surveys2. His<strong>to</strong>rical accounts3. Write-ups of cus<strong>to</strong>ms and traditions4. Anthropological data5. Written and oral testimonies under oath of living witnesses6. Written accounts of the indigenous community’s political structure andinstitutions or traditional structures of indigenous social and governmentsystems, with names of recognised leaders7. Pictures showing long term occupation such as those of oldimprovements, burial grounds and sacred places8. Pictures and descriptive his<strong>to</strong>ries of traditional communal forest andhunting grounds9. Pictures and descriptive his<strong>to</strong>ries of traditional landmarks such as75
