The file should make acopy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> disk but not include in <strong>the</strong> autoexec file batch commands, as was <strong>the</strong> case here.As shown in Table 15, those errors greatly increased <strong>the</strong> time to make a DOS disk, ara<strong>the</strong>r simple task that should have taken three minutes, not ten.As with <strong>the</strong> previous task, running FDISK (not observed here) and formatting <strong>the</strong>hard disk should have. been handled entirely by a batch file. Formatting and relatedactivities took over 13 minutes. (See Table 16). The first 7 minutes and 45 seconds <strong>of</strong>that time was spent figuring out that it was time to format <strong>the</strong> hard disk. It was not amatter <strong>of</strong> understanding <strong>the</strong> format command syntax, because one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> participants hadformatted several hard disks and hundreds <strong>of</strong> floppy disks before.The final task. in <strong>the</strong> setup procedure involved copying files to <strong>the</strong> hard disk.Copying files is a fairly straightforward task that inexperienced users can do, but can bedone much faster when using a batch file.
