Form: Herbaceous biennial or perennial plant 2-3 ft<br />

(0.6-1 m) tall.<br />

Leaves: Pubescent with both simple (especially on upper<br />

surface) and branched (especially on lower surfaces) hairs;<br />

marg<strong>in</strong>s dentate.<br />

Flowers/fruit: Purplish, fragrant flowers with 4 sepals,<br />

petals and stamens. Fruit a silique, 2-5 <strong>in</strong>. (5-12 cm) long,<br />

somewhat angular, lumpy from underly<strong>in</strong>g seeds; seeds <strong>in</strong> 1<br />

row.<br />

Habitat: Along roads, open woods, and moist bot<strong>to</strong>m lands.<br />
