Lonicera morrowii<br />
Morrow’s honeysuckle LOMO2<br />
Form: Deciduous, upright, arch<strong>in</strong>g-branched shrub up <strong>to</strong> 10<br />
ft (3 m) tall. Twigs pubescent, typically hollow.<br />
Leaves: Opposite, simple, ovate <strong>to</strong> elliptical <strong>to</strong> oval, marg<strong>in</strong>s<br />
entire, apex obtuse <strong>to</strong> acute; ±densely pubescent over <strong>the</strong><br />
whole undersurface. Sometimes persistent <strong>in</strong><strong>to</strong> w<strong>in</strong>ter.<br />
Flowers/fruit: Flowers paired <strong>in</strong> leaf axils; white turn<strong>in</strong>g<br />
yellow with age; on long peduncles, ~½ <strong>in</strong>. (5-15 mm), outer<br />
surface of corolla with scattered hairs. Fruit generally a<br />
red or yellow berry. See Appendix B for a comparison of<br />
<strong>nonnative</strong> species.<br />
Habitat: Open forests, forest edge, pastures, roadsides,<br />
fields.<br />
O<strong>the</strong>r dist<strong>in</strong>guish<strong>in</strong>g features/notes: Generally speak<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
<strong>the</strong> shrub<strong>by</strong> native forms of Lonicera have white solid pith.<br />
The <strong>nonnative</strong> forms have dark usually hollow pith. In <strong>the</strong><br />
NRS region, <strong>the</strong> most commonly encountered <strong>nonnative</strong><br />
species are L. tatarica and <strong>the</strong> hybrid L. x bella (a hybrid of<br />
L. morrowii and L. tatarica).<br />
