It is themost effective way USPSA canhelp your match director bringyou a first class championship.THE 1997 AREA MATCH DI-RECTORSPhysically there were nolook-alikes at the workshop.Height, weight ranges, hairstyles and dress characterizedthe diversity found within thissport, though in other waysthese Area match directorshave a lot in common. The 1997 Area match directorsare generally B-class competitors, although one holds aMaster classification. "A" and"D" classifications were alsorepresented. With one exception, each of the match directorshas been a USPSA memberfor some 10 years. The ages of the match directorsrange from the mid-thirtiesto the mid-fifties. Most are marriedand generally find theirfamilies to be supportive oftheir match directing responsibilities. Two admit that theirwives actually do much of theorganizational work for theirchampionship. The Area 3 match director,Larry Bullock, and the Area 4match director, Keith Milberger, are also USPSA directors.Jim Hutchinson, Area 5, is theIndiana section coordinator, and Brian McCormick, Area 1,is the Oregon section coordinator.Four of the Area match directorsare also enrolled in theNROI Range Master program:Brian McCormick, Area 1; JimHutchinson, Area 5; MilesCheatham, Area 6; and MikeMartin, Area 8.When asked what attractedthem to USPSA competition, every match director used theword "fun." Several expandedon the word and wrote "funshooting," "fun competition,"and "it's the fun and it's thechallenge." From what theysay, fun may be the primaryagenda theme of the USPSA1997 Area Championshipmatches.TRENDS FOR 1997Most of the 1997 AreaChampionships, because ofrange and volunteer staff limitations, will have to limit thechampionship to a three-daySend forFREE CATALOGVisa - MasterCard - UPS C.O.D.DAVE ZIMMERMANTARGET BARNP.O.
