However, a lot ofthem have given me pain. Fansof the classic Browning designhave suffered because, unlikeother pistol owners, we oftencan't use our guns straight fromthe maker. No, we suffer fromGlock envy and endure snickersfrom Sig owners and jeers fromowners of other handguns as wetrek to the gunsmith.We've waited and hoped, andafter 70 years Colt did give usvisible sights, ejection portsthat won't mangle brass andbarrels that will feed ammoother than ball. That's notenough. We still wait vainly forbetter triggers, and there arethose sharp edges that make usTHE KIMBER 1911The Classic Kimber .45 retails for $575.bleed. Colt "enhanced" the1911, but their new beavertailgrip safety, intended to protectthe web of the hand, curvesdownward in a manner thatleaves most of us cold. Thethumb safety continues in itsnub-like form that many shootersfind hard to operate, andthe trigger pull is usually horrendous.We still run to the gunsmithwith new 1911's.
