MEMBER'SMAILBAGContinued from page 3.cap guns in the current Limitedclass, but still want to retaintheir bells and whistles. Modificationsshould be limited tolow cost items aimed at reliabilityor cosmetics (extractors, ejectors, safeties, grips, etc.)Expensive modifications thatgive a competitive advantage(match fitted barrels or any machining/weldingof the frame orslide) should be prohibited.Keep the class truly "production"or defeat the purpose ofthe class.Jim Hilsenbeck, FY-33699• MORE PRODUCTIONCATEGORYUpon reading "ProductionGun Category" in In Touch andbeing a new USPSA shooter, first year, I am not happy.Since new shooters cannot buyhigh capacity magazines andthis will not improve in thenear future, you want to put usin a "kindergarten class" untilwe can buy high capacity magazinesor wish to compete withthose who have them. The answer is simple andfair, keep Limited class as iswith a 10-round load limit onmags. Can a new shooter, whom we are trying to recruit, walk into a gun shop and buy10-round mags? Yes.Can Master class shootersload only 10 rounds in their hicapmags and compete evenlywith other Master class shootersdoing the same? Yes.The ones doing all the yellingseem to be the ones whohave the hi-cap mags and wantto compete with the new guyswho can't get them. Can theynot compete on even terms? Iam not suggesting any equipmentbe given up, only the un-fair advantage. Is USPSA goingto welcome new shooters withfair rules, or take care of thelong-time members who don'twant to give the newcomer aneven playing field? My second point is sandbagging.Again the answer is simple.Do away with the class system.Have brackets or classesthat divide the score only. Everyonestarts with nothing anddoes the best they can, leavingthe sandbaggers the samechoice. If you are the highest inthat class or bracket, you win.If you go over, you have thehonor to be in the higher classor bracket. PPC does this andin 10 years of shooting PPC, Ihave not seen sandbagging.Tom Bird.
