We went to William's officeand made the usual businessintroductions and got straightto the business at hand—guns!I was delighted to discover thatWilliam was the treasurer forthe Cebu Pistol and Rifle Association(CPRA), the club thathad hosted the Level 4 Australasiamatch the month beforeI arrived. He offered totake me out to the range onSaturday. How could I refuse?Since the CPRA owns a Dillon1050, they can reload asfast as they can shoot. I especiallylike this idea since I'mpresident of a gun club in Oregon.(I think we should buy a1050 and keep it in the houseof the club president.)As we were in the office talkingabout gun laws, I found outthat the Philippines has a nationalcarry permit. I was justabout to ask a silly questionabout how often he carries agun, when I turned around andone of his business associatesproduced a Beretta .380 fromthin air. As I turned back toWilliam, he had a .45 with aCaspian frame, Springfieldslide, and Bar-Sto barrel in hishands. I chuckled and thoughtabout how much I liked thePhilippines.When Saturday camearound, I showed up with themistaken impression that wewere just going to go out andshoot a few rounds for the funof it. William stated that someof the stages from the Australasiamatch were still set up.We were going to have our ownpersonalized match! He had anextra belt, mag pouches, holster,and earmuffs. We proceededto the range and each ofus shot a few of the stages a fewtimes each. We shot for abouttwo hours, trading off betweenthe Caspian .38 and compensatedColt 70 Series in .45 caliber.The CPRA employs individualsto brass and tape tarRE COMPROMISE IS NEVER AN OPTION !gets which made the shootingeven more enjoyable.I thoroughly enjoyed myselfin Australia and the Philippines.In fact, this whole tripwas a lesson in how to be in theright place at the right time. Ihadn't planned for any shooting,but I shot on Sunday andon the next Saturday in two differentcountries. One of thethings that always strikes me ishow generous and graciousother shooters are. They alwaysroll out the red carpet and treatyou like a king. In most cases,I prefer the company of shootersover any business contacts.Many thanks to Peter andWilliam.
