He was hooked, andtook the next available ROclass. He completed his CROclass in December 1990 alongwith Perry, Steve, Jay, and BillMaund.He served on the board of directorsof the Northern Illinois<strong>Shoot</strong>ers Association for fouryears. He has also served asvice president, stats officer,safety officer, and match director.He has worked as an RO orCRO at several Illinois Sectionals,been a CRO at the 1992and 1994 Area 5 Championships,the 1995 TennesseeChampionship, and the 1995 Illinois3-Gun. He was also thematch director of the 1995 Area5 Championship. In addition,he has worked as an RO orCRO at five USPSA NationalChampionships.He is interested in the trainingand development of newshooters and range officers.ARNIE CHRISTIANSONArnie was driving down theroad at the gun club one day inOctober 1989 when he noticed agroup of people on the bullseyerange. He was used to peopleshooting there, but the rapidityof the shots was unusual anddidn't sound like bullseye.Upon investigating, he learnedthat they were shooting ipsick(IPSC), and that he was wel-come to givepracticalshooting atry.He retrievedhispre-production Coonan.357 Magnumpistol,Arnie Christiansontwo magazines (all that heowned) and an Uncle Mike'sholster, and ventured out ontothe range. LeRoy Trandem,Minnesota section coordinator,explained the safety rules andthe course of fire called NuevoEl Presidente. About 10 secondsafter the buzzer sounded,he was hooked on the sport; heordered a race gun from a gunsmiththe following morning.After he joined USPSA in1990, one opportunity led to another.He served as a club president,and in 1992 attended aRO seminar in Wisconsin. Oneyear later hewas again inWisconsin totake the CROseminar. Theword spreadthat he waswilling to becomeinvolvedand he wasasked to workat matches. Hewas the rangemaster of theMinnesota Sectionalsin 1993and 1994, andthen steppedup to match directorin 1995and 1996. Hewas also rangemaster for the1996 Area 3Championship.His Nationalsexperienceincluded beingan RO or CRO at the 1994,1995, and 1996 Open Nationalsand the 1996 Limited Nationals.Last year he completed histraining to be an NROI instructorwhile working on his rangemaster certification.Along the way, he has conductednew shooter's orientationclasses and has served notonly as the statistical officer fortwo clubs but as assistant sectioncoordinator as well. Healso got his son hooked on thesport, although he hadn'tcounted on his now 16-year-oldson beating him consistently.He has managed to keep shooting,but not to the level hewould like.
