iVi IEDITORcontinued from page 2MATCH FINANCESAt the membership meetingat the 1996 Open Nationalsin Quincy, Ill., the conversationturned to the entry feeand the fact that it had goneup approximately 20 percentfrom the 1995 fee. Many ofthose gathered were surprisedto learn that the match feesfell considerably short of coveringthe cost of the NationalChampionships, even with theincrease. Those questioning the increasebrought up a couple of verygood points. First, it wouldhave been easier for the competitorsto deal with the increasehad the fee increased insmaller amounts over a longerperiod of time. Second, wehave not communicated to themembership the economics ofthe nationals. Few people understandthe cost of producingsuch matches largely becausewe have failed to inform themof the costs. At that time, I promised theattendees that I would publisha breakdown of the coststhat come from an individualmatch fee. Here is that promisedreport. Please rememberthat these are unaudited numbers, and although they are veryr -111Macter CardL _close to the actual income andexpenses experienced at thematches, they are not exact. The chart below shows the incomeand expense for each matchfor each item per competitor. As you can see, producing anational championship qualitymatch is an expensive proposition. Our arrangement withthe fine people in Quincy, Ill.,WE CARRY THE FULL LINE OF TACTICAL FOLDING KNIVES By:BENCHNO *Poe"- l'OLD CTEELFixed Blade and Custom Knives and Automatics available upon request.Call for details and our NEW 1997 CatallogTO ORDER F.A.S. 602 953-1092CALL 12629 N.Tatiun Blvd #164, PHX, AZ 85032 10-5 M.S.TINCOME OPEN LIMITEDMatch Fee 225.00 200.00EXPENSESInsurance 4.17 5.00Lodging: RO's, Staff, Etc. 11.59 43.16Meals: RO's, Staff, Etc. 24.12 22.29Travel: RO's, Staff, Etc. 41.82 37.74Banquet Expense 18.53 30.90Trophies 13.56 9.62Consumables (Targets, Tape, Paint, etc.) 5.02 5.27Competitor Gifts 4.06 4.06Prize Purchases 55.77 37.00Range Expenses (Equip., Prep. & Decoration) 12.78 8.50Range Use Fee (paid to host range) 15.48 10.00RO Expenses (Shirts, "Thank You" Gift) 16.20 14.65Sponsor Expense (Banners, etc.) 18.61 11.74PASA Volunteers 4.76 0.00Office Expenses 2.58 3.29Payroll Expenses (Sedro Woolley support) 5.47 6.56Postage, Freight, Delivery 3.58 3.01Printing and Reproduction 6.78 6.50Equipment Rent (Golf carts, vehicles, etc.) 13.69 8.01Telephone & Other Utilities 0.14 1.19TOTAL EXPENSES PER PERSON 278.71 268.49EXPENSES LESS ENTRY FEES -53.71 -68.49OTHER INCOME (sponsor, banquet tickets, etc.) 24.17 15.29TOTAL MATCH INCOMELESS TOTAL EXPENSES -29.54 -53.20reduces the costs for thematch held at the PASArange, but even there the entryfees fall short of coveringcosts.
