Because the prospective social studiesteacher must be proficient in a number of disciplines, the SocialStudies Teacher Certification Option curriculum requires adepth of understanding from a broad panorama of social andcultural experience. The course work is specifically designedto address those competencies outlined by state and nationalcurriculum standards.This program is certified at both the state and national levelby the New Hampshire Department of Education and theNational Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education(NCATE). Graduates who complete this Teacher CertificationOption are eligible for 5-12 teacher certification in the state ofNew Hampshire. Because of New Hampshire’s membershipin the Interstate Certification Contract, <strong>Plymouth</strong> graduatesare eligible to earn a certificate or license in another Contractstate upon application to that state’s department of education.For further information, please see the Teacher Education andClinical Experiences section.A minimum 2.50 cumulative grade point average is required tostudent teach.
