In thismode, the flash fires in bright as well as dark conditions.v Suppressed flashUse this mode for taking pictures using indoor lighting, forshots taken through glass, and for photography in placessuch as theaters or at indoor sporting events where thedistance is too great for the flash to be effective. Whenyou use Suppressed flash, the selected white balancefunction (➡P.47) operates so that natural colors arecaptured along with the ambience of the available light.●! Place the camera on a stable surface to prevent camera shake whenshooting in Suppressed flash mode in the dark condition.●! See P.105 for information on the camera shake warning.c Slow synchroThis is a flash mode that uses a slow shutter speed. Thisallows you to take pictures of people at night that clearlyshow both your subjects and the night time backdrop.Place the camera on a stable surface to prevent camerashake.h Slowest shutter speed“©” NIGHT: up to 4 sec.n Red-eye reduction + Slow synchroUse this mode for Slow synchro shots with Red-eye reduction.●! The image may be overexposed when shooting bright scenes.To take a picture of a main subject at night with thebackground brightly lit, use the “©” NIGHT setting inShooting mode (➡P.46).1◆ Using the 2-second self-timer ◆This is useful to prevent camera shake.2 01 02 03301 02BebeepOFFN 12N 12BeepThe self-timer is used in situations where thephotographer is included in the shot.When photographer is away from the camera,place the camera on a stable surface to preventcamera fall.1 Set the Mode switch to “q”.2The self-timer setting changes each time youpress the “* (b)” button. The last displayedsetting is the selected mode.*: The picture is taken after 10 seconds.(: The picture is taken after 2 seconds.●! Any of the following cancels the self-timer setting:i Completing the shootingi Changing the Mode switch settingi Setting the camera to Playback modei Turning the camera off1 Position the AF frame over the subject.2Press the shutter button down halfway to focuson the subject.3Without releasing the shutter button, press thebutton all the way down (fully pressed) to startthe self-timer.●! The AF/AE lock can be used (➡P.25).●!
