Abu Sa`eed al-Khudri [1] quotes the Messenger <strong>of</strong> <strong>Allah</strong> say<strong>in</strong>g, "<strong>Allah</strong>, the most Exaltedand Sublime, said once to Moses son <strong>of</strong> `Imran (Amram), `O Moses! Had the heavens and allthose who reside there<strong>in</strong>, as well as those <strong>of</strong> the seven (layers) <strong>of</strong> earth, been placed on onescale and La ilha illa-<strong>Allah</strong> on the other, the scale conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g La ilaha illa-<strong>Allah</strong> would surelyhave weighed more."<strong>The</strong> great sahabi Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari quotes the Messenger <strong>of</strong> <strong>Allah</strong> say<strong>in</strong>g, "Twomost sure th<strong>in</strong>gs are: 1) Whoever dies testify<strong>in</strong>g that <strong>The</strong>re is no god except <strong>Allah</strong> will enterParadise and, 2) Whoever dies associat<strong>in</strong>g anyth<strong>in</strong>g with <strong>Allah</strong> will enter the fire (<strong>of</strong> hell)."Imam Ja`fer al-Sadiq quotes his great grandfather the Messenger <strong>of</strong> <strong>Allah</strong> say<strong>in</strong>g, "Teach yourdy<strong>in</strong>g persons to say: La ilaha illa-<strong>Allah</strong>, for it will smash their s<strong>in</strong>s all <strong>of</strong> them." He wasasked, "O Messenger <strong>of</strong> <strong>Allah</strong>! What about one who says so while enjoy<strong>in</strong>g good health?" Hesaid, "That is more smash<strong>in</strong>g to them, more so, and still more! Indeed, La ilaha illa-<strong>Allah</strong> isthe best companion <strong>of</strong> anyone dur<strong>in</strong>g his lifetime, when he dies, and when he is brought backto life aga<strong>in</strong>... Gabriel has said (to me): `O Muhammed! Were you only to see them whenthey are brought back to life aga<strong>in</strong>! Some are raised with white faces call<strong>in</strong>g out: La ilaha illa-<strong>Allah</strong>! <strong>Allah</strong>u Akbar! And the faces <strong>of</strong> others will be black, and they will be cry<strong>in</strong>g out: YaWaylah! Ya Thuburah! (O woe unto me! O what a calamity!)'"<strong>The</strong> Messenger <strong>of</strong> <strong>Allah</strong> has said, "Whoever says: La ilaha illa-<strong>Allah</strong> will have a tree plantedfor him <strong>in</strong> Paradise <strong>of</strong> red sapphire; it is planted <strong>in</strong> white musk, is sweeter than honey and ismore white than snow; its fragrance is better than musk, its fruit looks like virg<strong>in</strong>s' breasts,and it opens up for seventy outfits."Jabir ibn Yazid al-Ju`fi quotes Imam Abu Ja`fer al-Baqir who quotes the Messenger <strong>of</strong> <strong>Allah</strong>say<strong>in</strong>g, "For everyth<strong>in</strong>g there is someth<strong>in</strong>g else equal to it except <strong>Allah</strong>, the Exalted, theSublime, for noth<strong>in</strong>g at all equals Him, and so is La ilaha illa-<strong>Allah</strong>: noth<strong>in</strong>g equals it.Noth<strong>in</strong>g can weigh heavier than one's tear shed out <strong>of</strong> fear <strong>of</strong> <strong>Allah</strong>. If it trickles down hisface, no exhaustion nor humiliation shall ever touch it (his face) thereafter."<strong>The</strong> Commander <strong>of</strong> the Faithful Imam `Ali ibn Abu Talib has said, "Whenever a servant <strong>of</strong><strong>Allah</strong> says: La ilaha illa-<strong>Allah</strong>, it (the statement) ascends pierc<strong>in</strong>g every ceil<strong>in</strong>g, wip<strong>in</strong>g outhis s<strong>in</strong>s as it passes by them till it reaches its equivalent <strong>in</strong> good deeds. It is only there that itwill."Abu Ja`fer, Imam Muhammed al-Baqir, has said, "Noth<strong>in</strong>g is more rewardable than testify<strong>in</strong>gthat <strong>The</strong>re is no god except <strong>Allah</strong>, for noth<strong>in</strong>g equates <strong>Allah</strong>, the most Exalted One, nor isthere any partner with him."Abu Sa`eed al-Khudri quotes the Messenger <strong>of</strong> <strong>Allah</strong> say<strong>in</strong>g, "I have not said anyth<strong>in</strong>g, norhas anyone else before me, like: La ilaha illa-<strong>Allah</strong>."
