2. TEACHING FOR UMUC<strong>Faculty</strong> members should contact their academic administrator for guidance if a grading dispute arises. ThroughPolicy 130.80 Procedures for Review <strong>of</strong> Alleged Arbitrary and Capricious Grading (http://www.umuc.edu/policy/academic/aa13080.shtml), UMUC has provided a means for students to seek review <strong>of</strong> final course grades allegedto be arbitrary or capricious.2.9 Handling Academic Dishonesty and PlagiarismAll members <strong>of</strong> the university community share the responsibility for academic integrity. <strong>Faculty</strong> members areexpected to establish classroom environments conducive to the maintenance <strong>of</strong> academic integrity. Students alsoare expected to maintain and demonstrate academic integrity. Students can avoid unintentional plagiarism bycarefully following accepted scholarly practices. Notes taken for papers and research assignments should accuratelyrecord sources <strong>of</strong> material to be cited, quoted, paraphrased, or summarized, and students should acknowledgethose sources in text and in a references list. Failure to do so may result in a charge <strong>of</strong> plagiarism.Academic dishonesty—including cheating, fabrication, and plagiarism—is defined in UMUC Policy 150.25Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism, which can be found at http://www.umuc.edu/policy/academic/aa15025.shtml.
