FINANCIAL AND HUMAN RESOURCEINFORMATION■■■■■■Leaving a forwarding address with the Business Office for the W-2 mailing, as well as notifying the Office<strong>of</strong> Logistics and the Mailroom.Turning in CAC and ID cards to the regional manager’s <strong>of</strong>fice.Returning books and CDs to UMUC’s <strong>Faculty</strong> Loan Library and turning in keys and equipment.Checking with Human Resources about cancellation <strong>of</strong> benefits and the options for continuing medicalinsurance and canceling any local insurance.Arranging for the shipping or legal disposal <strong>of</strong> any automobiles and extending or canceling auto insurance.Completing other tasks required by the UMUC <strong>Asia</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> Logistics or other UMUC <strong>Asia</strong> <strong>of</strong>fices, suchas turning in all final grades and clearing with the Grades Office.<strong>Faculty</strong> members should also ask the UMUC <strong>Asia</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> Logistics for the most current information on issuesrelated to leaving UMUC <strong>Asia</strong>.4.16.1 Home LeaveThere is no “home leave” provided by either the military services or UMUC, no matter how long a collegiatefaculty member remains overseas. In other words, whenever a collegiate faculty member travels to the UnitedStates for personal reasons during his or her time with UMUC <strong>Asia</strong>, it is always at the individual’s expense.4.16.2 Returning to the United States at the End <strong>of</strong> Overseas ServiceCollegiate faculty hired stateside who traveled to <strong>Asia</strong> on U.S. government documents and have completed theirteaching obligation with UMUC <strong>Asia</strong> are eligible for a return trip, generally to their point <strong>of</strong> origin, at UMUC<strong>Asia</strong>’s expense at the end <strong>of</strong> their overseas service. This benefit is not available if the collegiate faculty memberonly wishes to return to the United States for the summer break and return to <strong>Asia</strong> again in the fall.To receive a return trip to the United States, the collegiate faculty member must inform the UMUC <strong>Asia</strong> Office<strong>of</strong> Logistics at least 30 days before his or her desired departure date. Collegiate faculty members must depart<strong>Asia</strong> no later than 14 days after the end <strong>of</strong> the session. Those who wish to remain in <strong>Asia</strong> beyond this period arerequired to terminate their status <strong>of</strong> armed forces agreement and obtain a visa to remain in their host country.Doing so will jeopardize the person’s benefit <strong>of</strong> returning to the United States at government expense. Sinceprovisions may change over time, faculty members are urged to check with the Office <strong>of</strong> Logistics for the mostcurrent information.4.16.3 Transportation <strong>of</strong> Personal Property When Leaving UMUC <strong>Asia</strong>The transportation <strong>of</strong> personal items (household goods/unaccompanied baggage) from <strong>Asia</strong> to the UnitedStates at UMUC <strong>Asia</strong> expense is not authorized for UMUC collegiate faculty. However, faculty members maybe eligible for up to $500 reimbursement for mailing and shipping expenses when they end employment withUMUC <strong>Asia</strong> and return to the United States. Receipts from a packer, post <strong>of</strong>fice, or shipping agent, along withan expense voucher, must be submitted to the regional manager to receive this allowance.Collegiate faculty members are solely responsible for the shipment <strong>of</strong> all personal property. UMUC is notresponsible for arranging transportation, transporting, or shipping the collegiate faculty member’s personalproperty. UMUC will not act as a go-between with the shipping company. In addition, UMUC <strong>Asia</strong> will not beheld in any way accountable for the trustworthiness, integrity, and reliability <strong>of</strong> the shipping agent the facultymember elects to use. Finally, UMUC is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property processedor shipped through a commercial or government agency. Any claims against a shipping company for lost, stolen,or damaged personal property is a matter between the collegiate faculty member and the shipping company. Atno time will UMUC act as a mediator or adjudicator or provide legal assistance in litigation proceedings associatedwith an insurance claim initiated either by the collegiate faculty member or the shipping agent.January 2011 www.asia.umuc.edu 37
