UMUC TEACHING EUROPE ASSIGNMENTSAND UMUC ASIAASSOCIATE DEANS• Serve as the senior academic<strong>of</strong>fi cer <strong>of</strong> UMUC <strong>Asia</strong>/Europe.• Provide leadership on theimplementation <strong>of</strong> UMUC academicinitiatives in UMUC <strong>Asia</strong>/Europe.• Advise UMUC <strong>Asia</strong>/Europe assistantdeans and regional managers<strong>of</strong> changes in academiccurricula or strategic initiatives.• Collaborate with UMUC Statesideassistant deans to ensurethat all programs and courses<strong>of</strong>fered in <strong>Asia</strong>/Europe meetUMUC standards.• Ensure that all programs andcourses <strong>of</strong>fered in UMUC <strong>Asia</strong>/Europe comply with requirements<strong>of</strong> academic policies.• Represent UMUC <strong>Asia</strong>/Europeon appropriate UMUC institution-widecommittees (curriculumcommittee, academic affairscommittee, etc.)• Recommend <strong>Asia</strong>/Europe facultyranks for appointment andpromotion to the <strong>Asia</strong>/Europedirector and to the School <strong>of</strong>Undergraduate Studies dean.ASSISTANT DEANS• Work with the division directorto recruit, evaluate, develop, andorient new faculty.• Work with the regional managersto recruit and evaluateadjunct faculty and orient incomingcollegiate faculty.• Review credentials and approvefaculty to teach specific UMUCcourses in <strong>Asia</strong>/Europe.• Coordinate with stateside assistantdeans and academic/program directors on curricularmatters and ensure that <strong>of</strong>feringsin <strong>Asia</strong>/Europe meet UMUCstandards.• Evaluate UMUC <strong>Asia</strong>/Europefaculty teaching effectivenessand provide feedback t<strong>of</strong>aculty, regional managers, theassociate dean, and the divisiondirector.• Identify pr<strong>of</strong>essional developmentneeds <strong>of</strong> UMUC <strong>Asia</strong>/Europe faculty and coordinatedelivery with the School <strong>of</strong>Undergraduate Studies orthe Center for Teaching andLearning.• Advise UMUC <strong>Asia</strong>/Europefaculty on curricula and academicpolicy issues.REGIONAL MANAGERS (ASIA)/REGIONAL ENROLLMENTMANAGERS (EUROPE)• Coordinate all aspects <strong>of</strong> UMUCprogram delivery at installationsin their geographic area <strong>of</strong>responsibility.• Manage collegiate and adjunctfaculty.• Create and staff course schedulesfor installations in theiracademic areas, in coordinationwith education services <strong>of</strong>ficers(ESOs).*• Assist field representativecoordinator in supervising fieldrepresentatives at each installationin their region.**• Recruit local adjunct faculty asneeded for staffing schedules.• Orient, assign, and retainfaculty.• Monitor registration eachacademic session and, incoordination with ESOs, decidewhich sections are <strong>of</strong>fered andcanceled.• Serve as the local UMUC <strong>Asia</strong>/Europe representative to themilitary.* Process currently under review in UMUCEurope.**Field representative coordinator positionin UMUC <strong>Asia</strong> only.January 2011 www.asia.umuc.edu Appendix–3
