But the word <strong>its</strong>elf is of Arabic origin, meaning " unbeliever," <strong>and</strong>is in this sense freely applied by the followers of the Prophet to all heathenor uon-Mohammedan populations, <strong>and</strong> especially to such as have formally rejectedthe teachings of the Koran.
