94 THE INCREDIBLE HUMAN POTENTIALLet me remind the reader at this poinnhat the first eleven chapters<strong>of</strong>Genesis are an exceedingly BRIEF synopsis <strong>of</strong> events <strong>of</strong>the firstmore than two thousand years <strong>of</strong> human life on earth - up to thetime <strong>of</strong> Abraham. Details must be filled in either by what isobviously implied, or by records found elsewhere in the Bible.<strong>God</strong> fully explained to Adam and Eve His GOVERNMENT -His spiritual LAW and way <strong>of</strong> life - and that, upon Adam's rightCHOICE, he could qualify, receive the Holy Spirit <strong>of</strong> <strong>God</strong>, begettinghim as a SoN OF Goo. Also <strong>God</strong> explained to Adam and Evethe CONSEQUENCES <strong>of</strong> rejection and disobedience:This was symbolized by the tree <strong>of</strong> the knowledge <strong>of</strong> goodand evil. For, warned <strong>God</strong>, "in the day that thou eatest there<strong>of</strong>,THOU SHALT SURELY DIE" (Gen. 2: 17).<strong>The</strong>n <strong>God</strong> allowed Adam and Eve to be tested by Satan. ButSatan was subtile. He got to Adam through his wife Eve. Eve wasdeceived - but Adam was not.Eve "took <strong>of</strong>the fruit" <strong>of</strong>the forbidden tree, "and did eat, andgave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat" (Gen. 3:6).So, "Now," said <strong>God</strong>, "lest he put forth his hand, and takealso <strong>of</strong> the tree <strong>of</strong> life, and eat, and live for ever; <strong>The</strong>refore the[Eterna!] <strong>God</strong> sent him forth from the garden <strong>of</strong> Eden, to till theground from whence he was taken. So he drove out <strong>of</strong> the man.and he placed at the east <strong>of</strong> the garden <strong>of</strong> Eden Cherubims, and aflaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way <strong>of</strong> the tree<strong>of</strong> life" - LEST he and his children go back and take <strong>of</strong> the treesymbolizing <strong>God</strong>'s Holy Spirit (Gen. 3:22-24).In other words, when Adam deliberately took <strong>of</strong> the forbiddentree, to put it in modero twentieth century language, Adamsaid to <strong>God</strong>, "<strong>God</strong>, my Maker, 1 reject you as my <strong>God</strong>, 1 REJECTyour way <strong>of</strong> life. 1 REJECT your GOVERNMENT over me. 1 elect tocontinue in the way 1 choose, 1 want you to keep your nose out <strong>of</strong>m y affairs. 1 reject you as the source <strong>of</strong> basic knowledge - 1 havetaken to myself the determination <strong>of</strong> the knowledge <strong>of</strong> what isright and what is wrong."And <strong>God</strong> replied, "1 have set clearly before you the way <strong>of</strong>truth. Yo u HA VE DECIDED - therefore 1 SENTENCE YOU and theworld that shall come from you to 6,000 years <strong>of</strong> being cuT OFFFROM ME. Go, form your own governments. Form your own reli-
