Thegrant program allows the <strong>of</strong>fice to comprehensively address the auto insurance and n<strong>of</strong>aultinsurance fraud problem, while generating intelligence and cooperators who willhelp identify individuals for investigation and prosecution <strong>of</strong> auto theft and insurancefraud, as well as other criminal activities. The Rackets <strong>Division</strong> is responsible for thisendeavor and has successfully conducted investigations into automobile and insurancerelatedcrimes, which include car thefts; chop shops; odometer rollbacks; collision shopssubmitting fraudulent claims, such as enhanced damage claim; and fraudulentvandalism claims.The <strong>Division</strong> also investigates medical clinics involved in fraudulent activities,durable medical equipment providers, as well as arsons for pr<strong>of</strong>it, identity theft, dealers<strong>of</strong> fraudulent insurance cards and money laundering. The <strong>of</strong>fice also has a Zone system<strong>of</strong> prosecution in which assistant district attorneys (ADAs) are assigned to Zonescovering specific precincts in Kings County.According to the <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong> <strong>State</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Insurance, there were 4,416incidents <strong>of</strong> suspected automobile insurance fraud in Kings County during 2008. In2009, there were 4,907 incidents, representing an approximate 11% increase. Of theincidents in 2009, 4,274 were classified as suspected no-fault fraud. According toDepartment <strong>of</strong> Insurance statistics, Kings County still has the highest incidence <strong>of</strong>suspected no-fault fraud in the state.
