<strong>Pretensioned</strong>/post-tensioned beams have been used <strong>in</strong> horizontally curved bridges(McMullen, Elkaissi & Leonard, 2008); an example of this construction is shown <strong>in</strong>Figure 2.55.In the pretensioned-only beam, str<strong>and</strong>s may be placed <strong>in</strong> the top flanges <strong>and</strong> webs<strong>in</strong> addition to the bottom flange. Web str<strong>and</strong>s may be harped (<strong>in</strong>ward <strong>in</strong> addition todownward). The bottom flange may hold up to three rows of 25 str<strong>and</strong>s each.The primary end-region re<strong>in</strong>forcement consists of 4 – #4 transverse bars <strong>and</strong>2 – #4 lateral bars are spaced at 3.3 <strong>in</strong>. This transverse <strong>and</strong> lateral re<strong>in</strong>forcement is placedwith one bar on each face of the webs <strong>and</strong> bottom flange, respectively.
