Cross countryteamworkThe <strong>KWS</strong> cross country runners haveenjoyed a successful season, startingwhen our talented 42-member squad(pictured right) came third overallin Division 1 at the HICES CrossCountry Carnival at Bathurst, as wellas winning the Division 1 percentagetrophy.Phoebe Litchfield (10 years girls) andOllie Steele-Park (12 years boys) wontheir races, with nine of our runnersselected for the CIS Cross Country atEastern Creek.Phoebe won her CIS race and Olliecame third, earning them bothselection in the CIS team to competeat NSWPSSA (State) Cross Country.Our other representatives also ranexceptionally well at Eastern Creek,with brilliant results against a highclassfield: Ziggy Jackson-LeCouteur58th; Lucy Waddell 30th; MaxBylsma 16th; Brooke Martin 16th;Jack Pengilly 47th; Florence Conway49th and Emma Crossing 27th.Phoebe and Ollie joined their CISCross Country teammates at thestate competition on July 19, wherePhoebe ran fifth and Ollie placed inthe middle of the pack.Phoebe was then selected in theNSW team to run at the Nationals inTasmania.NSWPSSA Touch Football ChampionshipsOllie Steele-Park competed at CoffsHarbour in the NSWPSSA TouchFootball Championships.Ollie played as a member of the CIStouch football team, under the expertguidance of our own Tim May.The boys played against 13 otherteams, playing five matches daily.It was an exhausting week as eachgame lasted 24 minutes.The boys played with mixed results,finishing in 10th place.Well done and congratulations toboth Tim and Ollie.Prep rugby carnival successBruising encounters, plenty ofrunning rugby and outstandingbehaviour made for a successfulweekend away when the Prep<strong>School</strong>’s senior rugby side(pictured left) attended the TASRugby Carnival.<strong>KWS</strong> was one of 48 teamsthat contested The Armidale<strong>School</strong>’s annual carnival.Game one saw themwin convincingly againstToowoomba Prep <strong>School</strong>, 26-0, before going down to PacificLutheran College 7-0.Despite a few bumps andbruises, the boys recharged to playwell against St Ignatius Riverview,but were defeated 12-0.The next game, against NudgeeCollege, Brisbane, was a highlight.Both teams played open, runningrugby and despite the 10-7 loss,everyone was delighted with theboys’ progress.Day two saw the boys meet TrinityCollege, Sydney, emerging from thebruising encounter with a 12-0 win.Prep <strong>School</strong> head Rob McLean hadnothing but praise for the boys’ “firstclassbehaviour on and off the field”,while also paying tribute to thededicated coaches and enthusiasticsideline supporters.27
