SENIOR SCHOOLEnriching Activities6Students enjoy good argumentsFrom Indigenous language inschools, to what sort of criminalswe ‘deserve’, <strong>KWS</strong> debaters havesuccessfully argued on a range oftopics as part of the HICES DebatingCompetition.The Middle Division (Years 7 and8) team made it to the semi-finalround after successfully arguing ‘ThatIndigenous language should not be acompulsory school subject’.The team comprised Parham Raoof,Connor Whiteley, India Kermodeand Amelia Rawson. Alice Litchfield,Josie Gilham and Lachlan Episcompeted in the early rounds.The Open Division (Years 11 and 12)also made it to the semi-final round,finishing the competition in the topfour. They won their quarter-finalby arguing ‘That societies get thecriminals that they deserve’.The team comprised MichaelGattone, Matt Johnston, Jack Rogersand Genevieve Sergeant. OliviaFisher participated prior to thequarter-final.The Senior team was eliminated inthe preliminary final round, howeverRebecca Crisp was named bestspeaker in the Western Region andJosh Cheney third best speaker in theWestern Region.The Junior <strong>KWS</strong> team also made it tothe semi-final.New leadershipteam announced<strong>KWS</strong> is looking forward to a positiveand productive 2014 under theguidance of our new student leaders.The Head and Deputy Head Prefectsfor <strong>2013</strong>/14 were announced inJune, following a thorough votingprocess which involved the Year 11students, staff and the current Headand Deputy Head Prefects.Our new leaders are: Head GirlPrefect – Sarah Steele Park; HeadBoy Prefect – Vaughn Higgins;Deputy Head Girl – Poppy Brown;and, Deputy Head Boy – AlexanderAmos.Term 4 will see them take overfrom our current, very successfulleadership team of Eloise Mirrington,Stan Alston, Isobella Grist andCharles McIntosh.As part of the new prefect systemwhich allows more students to takeup leadership positions, the Headand Deputy Head Prefects are noteligible for other leadership positionssuch as Tutor House Captain,Boarding House Captain or a specificPrefect position.
