ConnectionsCommunity Life32‘Farewell’ is never‘goodbye’At the end of each year <strong>KWS</strong> saysfarewell, but not goodbye, to manyfamilies who celebrate the fact theiryoungest child is graduating fromYear 12.This year two families deservespecial mention.The Lukins family from Orangehas been associated with the<strong>School</strong> for 24 years, as eldestchild Sam (95) began at <strong>KWS</strong> in1990. Tim graduated in 2003, andChris in 2004. With youngest sonNick finishing up in November,parents Felicity and Hugh are quiteemotional about losing contactwith the <strong>School</strong> they have loved fordecades.The Shillington family are also local.Eldest child Ed began at <strong>KWS</strong> in1997, followed by daughters Alison(03) and Jess (06). Nick will finish upthis year. The connection with thefamily goes back a very long way, asNick’s grandmother Alison (Locke)Shillington left PLC in 1952.A special ‘parents finishing up’function is planned for November,and will now be held annually tocelebrate the fact families who finishat <strong>KWS</strong> are farewelled, but never farfrom our hearts.Third generation students honouredA special Ex-students’ AssociationFamily Heritage award wasinstituted five years ago to honourstudents and families who have hadthree continuous generations attendthe schools.This year will again see threewonderful students (all the finalstudent in their family) receive theaward at the Year 12 celebrationassembly.Isobella Grist (following dadDugald, 1977 and grandad ThomasGriffiths, 1946), Angus Williams(following dad Martin,1975 andgrandad Vivian, 1936) and KateWilson (following mum Sally Bruceand grandmother Helene [Scarr]Bruce, 1963) are all very proud thirdgeneration members of the <strong>KWS</strong>family.It is hoped these three may becelebrating being part of a ‘fourthgeneration prize’ in years to come.Pictured: Top - L to R Nick Lukins and NickShillington; below - Isobella Grist, AngusWilliams and Kate WilsonNewest familymemberThe Music Faculty’s KateEdwards, husband Ben and sonTimothy welcomed beautifulClaire Alice into their family onMay 23.
