GETTING STARTEDINSPECTING YOUR <strong>IPR</strong>-<strong>12</strong>The <strong>IPR</strong>-<strong>12</strong> is contained within a rugged, waterproof housing.1.Lift up the two tabs that secure the lid of the case to the instrumenthousing.INSTALLING THE BATTERIES2. Inspect the <strong>IPR</strong>-<strong>12</strong> for any physical damage.Note: Contact <strong>Scintrex</strong> or your authorized agent immediately if thereis any evidence that the unit was damaged during shipment.3. Compare the contents of the shipping container with the packing slip.Notes:Contact <strong>Scintrex</strong> or your authorized agent if the contents of thecontainer do not correspond with the packing slip.The lid of the case can be removed by removing the hingeto the Maintenance Section - 'Removing The Lid'pin. ReferThe <strong>IPR</strong>-<strong>12</strong> requires two sets of batteries. One set is to power theinstrument while the other set is to power the display heater. <strong>Scintrex</strong>supplies Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cad) batteries with a 4Ah capacity.Other batteries such as the Alkaline type can be used when you are notable to re-charge the batteries. In an emergency, it is also possible touse Carbon-Zinc flashlight batteries.WARNING: Great care must be taken when handling and storingNiCad batteries as shorting out a cell may result in an explosion orfire.Notes:• Sets of batteriesshould not be mixed as a weak battery may implythat the batteries are discharged and excessive charging decreasesthe lifespan of a battery.• <strong>Scintrex</strong> recommends rechargeable NiCad batteries with a 4Ahcapacity or greater.• Alkaline batteries can be used where charging facilities are notavailable.• In an emergency, carbon-zinc flashlight batteries can be used.2-1
