MEANING :Meditate the Lord as the one who rules over the past, present and future, as the very air that purifies and as the pureone himself. Meditate also as the fire, the purest of all things.Meditate Him as the creator and the fire, the purest of all things.Meditate Him as the creator and the destroyer of Cupid, asCupid himself who is the beloved of all. He is the cause of alldesires by which he sways the whole creation as the Lord.Explanation :Our past, present and future are inter-twined as a continuouswhole which is the product of our own liking and our own doing. Our own liking is due to our own separate existence away fromthe awareness of the omni-presence of the Lord. In such a state, our consciousness is called the ego which is the Cupid of thepoetic imagery in the puranas. It is a necessary limitation to conduct the drama of ourexperiencing the stages of creation which is in no way differentfrom our experience of the various aspects of the play of theLord. He becomes many as ourselves and conducts the play ofthe creation of our life incidents. In such a capacity the Lordgives birth to Cupid and hence Visnu is the father of Cupid. TheLord makes our third-eye (the divine discrimination called yoga)opened in course of time and burns Cupid to ashes, in his capacityas Siva. Before that Cupid gives us desires and he is the mostbeautiful and the most beloved of all of us. We love each otherwithout being aware of the presence of the Lord in us. Then webegin to like each other and desire very much for the presence ofour beloved ones. This is all the play of cupid who is no otherthan ego-consciousness in us. He is described as the great warriorwho vanquishes everyone with his five arrows (our five senses).129
