The Sahasranama of Vishnu hasbeen given out by one of the foremost devotees of the Lord inthe Presence of the Lord Himself, who was listening as LordKrishna. Hence His acceptance is vouch safed. This speaks ofthe authoritative nature of the text. Another fact is thatVedavyasa, who has composed this text into a poem was alsopresent there at the time of Bhishma initiating the notable ones.This can be taken among the all accepted scriptures of theuniversal tradition. Not by faith, but by understanding,discrimination, comprehension and realisation this text had beenreceived by the notable ones.Many are the commentaries in Sanskrit that explain thesignificance of the scripture, in various angles by the propoundersof the various schools of thought. Sankaracharya himself hasgiven his worthy commentary. Ramanuja has ordered ParasaraBhatt, one of his chosen disciples to write an elaboratecommentary. With due regards to the Himalayan scholars inSanskrit, I point out that it is the depth of each name that hasbeen displayed by all while the synthesis of the scripture is leftout untouched. My attempt is mainly to bring out the synthesisand the run-on import of the text enough to render all thescriptures between their lines.As far as it is necessary 1 brought together the variousaspects of the past commentaries but the main stress is givenupon the synthetic aspect or the soul of the text. I do not claimthat this is the final word since nothing is final about THEWORD.15
