The fuel cell demonstrates the generation of
electricity by direct conversion of the chemical
energy released through the oxidation of a fuel
into electrical energy.
The electrical energy generated here can
be used e.g. to drive a miniature motor
(> 667 433).
Hydrogen, methanol, glucose and hydrazine
can all be used as fuels.
The fuel cell consists of a U-tube with two lateral
connections, a sintered disk and two rodshaped
nickel-wire mesh electrodes. The Utube
is mounted using spring clips on a holding
plate, which can be mounted to a stand rod by
means of a clamp on its rea.
Additionally required for
palladium-coating of electrodes:
Palladium (II) chloride, 1 g (> 674 040).
