2010-20112011PASCAL English School students participate in the 7 th Pancyprian Mathematical ConferenceOn Sunday the 6 th of February 2011 PASCAL English School Lefkosia had the chance to take part in the 7 th Pancyprian MathematicalConference, which took place at the Coral Beach Hotel in Paphos. Thirdform students Panayiotis Antoniou, George Georgiou and Chrystalla Galanoupresented an assignment on ‘How logarithms help in calculations and howthey lead to the world of knowledge’. All three students felt proud and veryhappy to be given this opportunity. One of our upper school studentsCharalambos Louca (5A) also participated with his own research on“Methods of Evaluating Approximately the Perimeter and Area of an Ellipse”.He impressed everyone with his work that he is also going to Athens torepresent us at Euromath. Despite the hard preparation from both studentsand teachers to prepare this assignments, the day was most enjoyable anda beneficial experience.PASCAL English School Lefkosiaattains honorary mentionPASCAL English School Lefkosia, as part of its ongoingefforts to encourage pupil participation in academicactivites beyond the classroom, took part in the IacovosPapatsos competition which took place on Saturday 6 thNovember at the Apostolou Varnava school in Nicosia.Students from both public and private schools took partin this mathematical competition and it was a greatachievement that amongst so many students who tookpart George Sidiropoulos, year 1 of PASCAL EnglishSchool Lefkosia, attained Honorary Mention. Many congratulationsto the students who participated and to theteachers who helped in the preparation. We look forwardto many more achievements of this kind in thefuture.PASCAL Schools compete in theMathematical Relay Competition2011On 1 st of February 2011 students of Ελληνική Σχολή ΠΑΣΚΑΛand PASCAL English School Lefkosia visited the “SpyrosKyprianou” indoor stadium in Limasol where the MathematicalRelay was organised. An unexpected and unprecedentedexperience was gained from this interesting contest as studentslearned to compete for the whole team and developedtheir social skills with children from other groups. It was alsoa race of knowledge, using mathematical thinking for solvingproblems. It was an unforgettable experience that will stayetched in the minds of students and teachers alike.13
