2010-20112011MUSICMarios Tokas a Greek composer of traditional music was born in Limassol, Cyprus on 8 th ofJune in 1954. In the 1974 invasion, as a soldier of the Cypriot National Guard he fought againstthe Turkish invaders. In 1975 he went to Athens to study in the philosophical school. At thesame time, he studied in the Ethnic Odeon because he wanted to start a career as a musician.From that time he composed his own music. In 2004, Tokas and his six-member orchestragave a concert in Vienna. Simple to life but also a humanist was kept away from the circuit ofprofit. Moreover, as he used to say "money is to help the poor people and not to keep it in thebanks ' he gave money from many of his concerts as a good Christian and Patriot for philanthropicand national purposes.On 27 April 2008, Tokas died of cancer in Athens. He is regarded as the most prominent composerin Cyprus and one of the most important in Greece. Marios Tokas will always be rememberedfor his passion for Cyprus and the connection of his music with Cyprus.Marios Tokas worked with some of the most famous Greek singers. Dimitris Mitropanos, Constantina,Yiannis Parios, Aleka Kanellidou, Charis Alexiou, Dimitra Galani, Dionisis Theodosis,Katerina Kouka, Antonis Kalogiannis and Manolis Mitsias are just a few of them. Every summerhe always offered free of charge concerts in his native Cyprus, for all the 18 year olds thatwere going for their 26 month compulsory service in the National Guard. Marios Tokas was asuperb composer and his work includes religiousalbums, folk albums, soundtracks to televisionshows, and pure Greek music.
