Well, if you didn’t,then listen to this: A man called Adolf Hitlerled a party named the Nazis. In 1933,this man became the Führer (president) ofGermany. The Nazi party was admired bypeople in Germany, and Hitler was seen for many as hopefor a better life. However, the reality behind their maskproved the opposite. The Holocaust refers to the killing of the Jewish society. Itbegan in 1933, and ended in 1945. Jews were not the onlymurdered, but also gypsies, homosexuals, disabled peopleand even children. Hearing about this cruel action mademe feel miserable, and I wondered how cruel can you beto do this?Obviously Hitler and the Nazis were mean; they killed 11million people, from which 6 million were Jews! A big number, isn’t it?Well, today, while navigating through the Internet, I foundsome interesting but shocking facts about the Holocaust.First of all, a death/concentration camp was the placewhere they would send the Jews, kill them, or work themto death! Moreover, a man called Josef Mengele used to dobrutal and bad experiments on twins, at a major deathcamp. For example, he observed one twin’s behavior whenthe other one was hurt (or killed). After the war, this manescaped to Brazil and changed his name to WolfgangGerhart. In 1936, when the Olympics were held in Berlin (Germany’scapital), the Nazis took out Anti-Jewish signs or posters. They didn’t want the people from other countries to seehow bad the Jews were treated. But, what’s even moreironic is that after the Olympics were over, they put themback. Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was managedby Maria Mandel, or as the prisoners called her, ‘TheBeast’. She was the most evil woman that ever lived! Shewould wait at the gates and any prisoner that looked at herwould be killed! She used Jews as ‘pets’, and after gettingbored of them, she’d send them to be killed. She even selected children to murder! All this happened along time ago, but genocide (getting rid of inferior races) isstill practised around the world. Actually, 52 million peopleinvolved in this ‘New Holocaust’ died from 1900 to 2000!History repeats itself again. Then when is the world goingto learn from mistakes?51Bianca Geangalau 4A
