The fact that the MIRTO campaign was not only the firstsuch campaign aimed specifically at tourists in the Mediterraneanarea but also the first one that has monitoring planned from theoutset, the major contribution of the MIRTO campaign is in thatthe results can be used as the benchmark for any future similarcampaigns. At the same time, the MIRTO results clearly illustratethe advantages of the monitoring activity as it gives very clear indicationif the selected communication channels are reaching thetarget population and to what extent and whether/to what extentthe population is receptive to the messages.10
