Bol, Brač, Croatia, 17-19.9.2012.Abstract:Spatial planning of tourism zones outside settlements is of crucialimportance to tourism development in Croatia as the characteristicsof tourism zones significantly impact on the competitivenessof tourism products being created there. The issue is of particularsignificance for tourism development of Croatia’s highly pressuredprotected coastal area. Despite the country’s long established traditionof spatial and tourism planning a critical, multidisciplinaryand integrated planning of tourism zones is still largely missing. This paper proposes a system of interrelated ecological, social andeconomic criteria for evaluating and planning of tourism zones inCroatia. The system is envisioned as a tool contributing to spatialplanning of sustainable tourism development.Marušić, Zrinka; Sever, Ivan; Ivandić, Neven (2012) MediterraneanCruise Itineraries and the Position of Dubrovnik. CruiseTourism and Society A Socio-economic Perspective, Papathanassis,Alexis; Lukovic, Tihomir; Vogel, Michael (ur.). Heidelberg:Springer, str. 3-16.Abstract:Mediterranean cruise market, and the competitive position of Dubrovnikas one of the leading Mediterranean ports of call. Based oncruise itineraries’ data, offered by 25 cruise companies in 2010, theMediterranean cruise market was analyzed with regards to the totalnumber of different itineraries and cruises. Moreover, other relevantfactors include: the total number of ports/destinations participatingin cruise tourism within the Mediterranean; the interdependence ofthe respective ports, itineraries and cruise companies; the numberof cruise ships involved, according to ship size; and the seasonalityof cruises. Dubrovnik’s competitive position was assessed throughthe comparison of cruises that have Dubrovnik as a port of callversus those that do not. Such an approach enables ports/destinationsto directly assess their market position whilst also gatheringinformation on the characteristics of ports/destinations that theyrely on and/or compete with on different itineraries.Čorak, Sanda; Mikačić, Vesna; Ateljević, Irena (2012) An ironicparadox The longitudinal view on impacts of the 1990s homelandwar on tourism in Croatia. Tourism and War. Butler, Richard;Suntikul, Wantanee (ur.). New York: Routledge, str. 161-175.Abstract:Croatia is a Mediterranean tourism destination with a tourism traditionof more than 160 years. The tourist flowsj to Croatia practicallycame to a halt in the 1990s because of the homeland war, butnow, twenty years now after the war and a painful recovery phase,Croatia is one again attracting th tourist market. In this paper weput forward two key arguments: theoretically, the impacts of waron tourism need to be evaluated beyond current historical andnational contexts ; and, empirically, that Croatia is now in a uniqueposition to take a more positive outlook for its future as a naturalhave in an overdeveloped and over-urbanised Europe.14
