Applied TechnologyFrom the beginning humans have used available materials to make tools, satisfy their needs and modify their environments. Todaythese tools and materials have become more sophisticated, as have the opportunities and problems to which they are directed. Ineach of the applied technology courses, students will use their knowledge and creativity to successfully complete a wide variety ofdesign challenges.9 th Grade 10 th Grade 11 th and 12 th GradesIntroduction to EngineeringElectricity/ElectronicsBeginning WoodworkingPhotography 1Graphic Design 1Digital Imaging 1Yearbook(middle school yearbookexperience AND teacherrecommendation required)Introduction to EngineeringEngineering 2Metals & WeldingElectricity/ElectronicsIntroduction to Mechatronics 1CAD – Solid ModelingBeginning WoodworkingAdvanced WoodworkingArchitecturePhotography 1, 2Graphic Design 1, 2Digital Imaging 1, 2Recording, Engineering and MixingYearbook: RevolutionaryIntroduction to EngineeringEngineering 2Metals & WeldingElectricity/ElectronicsIntroduction to Mechatronics 1Introduction to Mechatronics 2CAD – Solid ModelingBeginning WoodworkingAdvanced WoodworkingArchitecturePhotography 1, 2, 3Graphic Design 1, 2Digital Imaging 1, 2Recording, Engineering and MixingFilmmakingYearbook: RevolutionaryINTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING1 credit Prerequisite: none .5 applied art / .5 science Fee: materials fee (see page 9 for additional information) CVHS Credit: .5 applied art & .5 science OUS Credit: none (LBCC College Now 4 credits in Intro to CAD {EG4.407} available)This course introduces students to engineering, the creative application of concepts of science and various forms of technology toproblems and their solutions. From the simplest machines to the most complex systems, everything you currently use today is, at leastin part, the result of creative problem solving on the part of an engineer. This course will teach ways of thinking and doing that makeinvention and problem solving possible. Students will learn how to generate ideas, test and communicate those ideas, and make thema reality. Students will use technical drawing (drafting) skills from simple sketches to A+CAD, and will also utilize the CV materials laband its machine and hand tools. Throughout the course students will have the opportunity to interact with local professional engineersas well as Oregon State University engineering departments. Students participating in this course must have the potential to work in aself-directed fashion. This course develops the skills necessary for higher level engineering courses. This class will be team-taught byone applied technology instructor and one science instructor. With the completion of this course, students will have the option tocontinue a study in engineering by taking the Engineering 2 course (description follows) and/or many of the applied technology andscience courses offered at CV.- 14 -
