The class is activity and discussion oriented with majorassignments being written abstracts, a term paper, and an oral presentation.SOCIOLOGY.5 credit Prerequisite: grade 12 CVHS Credit: social studies 12 OUS Credit: social studiesThe discipline of sociology deals with aspects of human interactions. Students study group behavior from a sociological point of viewand develop the tools for making this analysis. The ultimate goal ofcitizenship education is to enable students to become competent and responsible participants in our constitutionaldemocracy.Students will participate in the Project Citizen civics education program. Project Citizen is an interdisciplinary curriculum designed toteach responsible participation in local and state government. The program helps participants learn how to monitor and influencepublic policy. In the process, they develop support for democratic values and principles, tolerance, and feelings of political efficacy.Students work cooperatively to identify a public policy problem in their community, evaluate possible solutions, and develop an actionplan for local government leaders to use in addressing the problem. The work culminates with a class portfolio and mock hearing.
